Every deck starts here, at the card with no number — or rather, the number zero. The Fool stands at the edge of a cliff, one foot in the air, a white rose in hand and a small dog at his heels. He is about to step off. He has no idea what happens next. Neither do we. That's the point.

What the card means

In the tarot, The Fool is card 0 of the Major Arcana — the beginning of the whole journey the deck describes. He isn't foolish in the insulting sense. He's innocent: open, unguarded, unburdened by everything he's about to learn. The cliff-edge isn't a warning, it's an invitation. The leap is the whole card.

Read upright, The Fool is new beginnings, faith, spontaneity, the courage to start before you're ready. Read reversed, he's recklessness — the same leap, taken blind. Either way, he is pure potential with the volume turned all the way up.

What The Fool sounds like
